The beautiful main square is proof of it’s powerful medieval past with the majestic Palazzo dei Priori and the monumental sculpted fountain celebrating Water, Perugia and the Achievements of Mankind.
The surprising underground town is a result of the “Salt war” between Perugia and Pope Paul III in the 16th century. After a rebellion organized by some important local families, the Pope decided to build a fortress literally on top of the Noble district of Perugia.

The ancient crafts of Weaving and Stained glass are still present today in two studios in Perugia.

Visit Glass painting studio

The space of a former church is occupied by several antique looms of the Weaving Studio. Founded in 1921, this workshop still uses these looms to create textile of the highest quality inspired by traditional designs and colours. It is one of the last workshops in Italy to use original Jacquard frames. Watch the functioning looms and learn about the history and techniques of this ancient craft.
