Visit Gubbio

The Romans took over, extended the town towards the valley where they built a Roman theatre. Today however, Gubbio is known as one of Italy’s best preserved medieval towns. A walk through its maze of medieval streets is really like going back in time.
Absolute masterpiece of daring medieval architecture is the main square and the majestic Palazzo dei Consoli, built on 4 enormous arches.
An elevator leads to the Cathedral and the Palazzo Ducale at the very top of the town.
During the visit you will also learn everything about the local Patron Saint Sant’Ubaldo and the famous festival of the Corsa dei Ceri (Candle Race) held every year on the 15th of May.

Visit Città di Castello

The early history of Città di Castello is linked to it’s position in the Tiber Valley. In Roman times, the Tiber river was navigable from here to Rome, making Città di Castello an important port and logistic town.
Several buildings, squares and churches will tell us the history of the town during the Middle Ages when it played a major role in northern Umbria and had an independent town government.
The Vitelli family was the ruling local family during Renaissance. They commissioned important works of art with major artists such as Luca Signorelli and Giorgio Vasari and built four elegant palaces.
Città di Castello is also the birthplace of Alberto Burri, one of the most famous and important Italian artists of the XXth century.
The wooded areas around Città di Castello offer a fertile soil for truffles. Black and White truffles were known and appreciated since ancient times and are part of the gastronomic traditions of the region. In November, the White Truffle Festival dedicates several days to this precious delicacy.
