Visit Perugia
Who can resist the temptation of Chocolate! Visit Perugia, capital of Umbria and Italian capital of Chocolate.
Perugia, capital of Umbria, was founded by the Etruscans more than 2500 years ago. Part of the massive Etruscan townwalls and gates can still be seen today.
The beautiful main square is proof of it’s powerful medieval past with the majestic Palazzo dei Priori and the monumental sculpted fountain celebrating Water, Perugia and the Achievements of mankind.
The Nobile Collegio del Cambio (Hall of the powerful Guild of Moneychangers) was decorated by Perugino, one of the most successful Renaissance painters.
Capital of Chocolate
The surprising underground town is a result of the Salt war between Perugia and Pope Paul III in the 16th century. After a rebellion organized by some important local families, the Pope decided to build a fortress literally on top of the Noble district of Perugia.
Breathtaking panoramic views complete the visit of this surprising town.
Perugia is also called the Italian Capital of Chocolate. Every year in October the Eurochocolate Festival attracts a large number of visitors to the city centre where chocolate becomes the main theme.
Discover the history, the techniques and the ingredients of chocolate making and try to make your own chocolate in a workshop given by Master Chocolatiers.
